If your child has had vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or obvious cold symptoms (runny nose) within the 24-hour period prior to a school day, PLEASE do not bring the child to school. Children are most contagious at the beginning of an illness when they have fever. Children should be fever free without medication for 24 hours prior to returning to CDO. Please be considerate of the other children and families in CDO when considering if your child is well enough to attend class. Because of the numerous allergies in the Austin area, we see many runny noses. However, if the nasal discharge is not clear, the parent must provide the school with a note from a doctor stating that the child is not contagious. We will call you to come get your child if we feel like the child needs to go home for his/her own health or for the health of the other children. When a child comes to school, he /she should be well enough to participate in all activities. NO ONE will be kept inside because of a cold or other illness.
Whenever a student becomes ill or is injured at school, the Director or teacher will call the parent to come pick up the child and will isolate the child from the other children in cases of illness. A staff member will remain with the child until the parent arrives. If the child sustains a serious injury that requires a doctor’s attention, the parent will be notified and the child taken to his/her doctor or the nearest minor emergency center or hospital.
Each child enrolled must meet applicable immunization requirements specified by the Texas Department of Health. All immunizations required for the child’s age must be completed by the date of admission.
The Special Senses and Communication Disorders Act, Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 36, requires screening or a professional examination for possible vision and hearing problems for children four years of age or older who are enrolled in a child care center. The CDO program has contracted with Kathleen Tacquard and Associates to provide this screening on site in early October.
