Birthdays & Holidays

Parents are sometimes asked to help with holiday celebrations:  Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day or Easter.  We wish to present holidays in their Christian setting and use that as the basis for our celebrations.

Each child at this school is blessed to have many opportunities for fun, enrichment and special treats.  When we observe a special day at school whether it is Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or birthdays, our objective is for the child to experience the true meaning of the celebration.  God’s love is a part of each of our celebrations and that love is what we want the children to enjoy and remember.

Teachers may decide to have a class observance of a holiday and we ask for parents cooperation in helping the children to focus on the reason for the celebration rather than the excessive material expressions of the celebration.  Please check with your child’s teacher for the specific guideline for any celebration.  We also celebrate birthdays during our chapel services.

Your child’s birthday is important to him/her and to us!  Please discuss details with your child’s teacher before his/her birthday so that she can make it a special day for the child.  No gifts are to be exchanged.  The birthday child may furnish a special treat for snack such as donut holes or cookies.  In addition, parents may donate a book to CDO in honor of the birthday child.  We will make an appropriate bookplate with the child’s name, birth date, and class.  Love and consideration for others is one of the basic teachings at TUMC CDO.  Therefore, birthday party invitations may not be distributed at school unless the whole class is invited.  Naturally, it is often impossible to invite all the classmates to a birthday party, in which case we ask that the party invitations not be distributed at CDO.
